Amazing things can happen when children connect with a caring ONE TO ONE tutor: an improvement in literacy skills, a boost to confidence and, a important sense of social connection.
The pandemic is hard on all of us, especially as we approach the holiday season. It’s created distance at a time when we need closeness, and created stress at a time when we need cheer. For countless young readers in British Columbia, it’s created disconnection and social isolation, on top of steep learning losses.
That’s why the whole ONE TO ONE team has been working hard the past six months to start reconnecting readers and tutors so they can read together again, virtually. Throughout December, the ONE TO ONE community pulled together and raised $60,000 to help us continue reconnecting ONE TO ONE readers and tutors, and bring smiles back to reading.
The Francis Family Foundation, the Collings Stevens Family Foundation and the Malberry Foundation matched every single donation made from Tuesday, December 1 to Monday, December 7, 2020 – adding $30,000.
Every $1 donated grew to $4, so a gift of $25 became $100 and a gift of $100 became $400.
And all new or increased monthly Page Turners commitments were also matched, so a monthly gift of $25 resulted in ONE TO ONE receiving $100 per month.
Because of the tremendous response from our community, we are keeping the campaign open to new gifts throughout December. All gifts made before 8:59 pm on December 31 will receive a 2020 tax receipt.
