ONE TO ONE Literacy’s longest-serving volunteer tutor, Sally Fergusson, has been volunteering every Wednesday afternoon since September 1998 at Sir Alexander Mackenzie Elementary. In recognition of her outstanding commitment and contribution to the community in her capacity as a ONE TO ONE volunteer tutor, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented Sally with the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers at a special ceremony on December 8, 2016 in Edmonton. This award recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields.

The Governor General presents honours on behalf of all Canadians in communities across the country to help share inspiring stories, celebrate tremendous contributions to our society and connect with Canadians.
