On March 21st, ONE TO ONE Literacy Society’s dedicated supporter, New Westminster writer, JJ Lee, hosted an exclusive literary salon fundraiser featuring internationally-acclaimed Canadian novelist Madeleine Thien, at New Westminster’s Centennial Lodge. It was an intimate and exclusive conversation about her latest book, Do Not Say We Have Nothing.

The novel is one of the most celebrated books of 2016. It won the Governor-General’s Literary Award for Fiction and the Giller Prize, and it was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

Ms. Thien read selections from the work and answered questions from local bookclub members and the audience: an evening of book talk, refreshments, snacks, and good company by a roaring fire.

The event was a great success, with net proceeds to ONE TO ONE Literacy Society totaling $5,940. These funds will go toward the expansion of the program to the New Westminster School District.

Special thanks to event sponsors, the Art Council of New Westminster and Fresh St. Market.

And to JJ Lee and Madeleine Thien, and all who attended the event, a very BIG thank you for all you did to ensure this event was a huge success. We appreciate the countless hours put into organizing an event like this. And thank you to Ms. Thien for your time and for delighting the audience.
